It’s happening, it’s REALLY happening!
Today marked Showtime‘s TCA executive session and as a surprise to no one, Twin Peaks was all the talk!
David Nevins, the president of Showtime Networks, was on hand to talk about the follow up series that’s had quite a bit of trouble in the last few months!

The David Lynch and Mark Frost show already has one long script written by the duo, with Lynch set to direct!
He’ll apparently shoot the entire thing as one long movie and later edit it into episodes.
The idea was to originally only have nine episodes but it’s likely that the series will run longer than that. However, the exact number of episodes won’t be figured out until after shooting has concluded which is supposed to start in September!
Nevins didn’t really talk about casting though — other than Kyle MacLachlan — since that’s all done through Lynch’s company. Though the Showtime president did tease:

“You should be optimistic that the people you want to be there will be there, in addition to some surprises.”

He also addresses the drama around bringing the show back, with reports that Lynch had temporarily exited the project by saying:

“I never had doubt we would get him back, Twin Peaks is a huge priority for us. It became clear it would take more than nine episodes, which we had planned and budgeted for. We had to sort that out. Lynch wanted to direct all episodes, and we wanted him to direct all episodes. We are looking to be in great shape.”

It’s originally slated to return in 2017, but there’s some hope that it could be arriving sooner in 2016 sometime.
Nevins made sure to mention though that Lynch has complete control over the project and there’s no pressure on him to finish it sooner.
