And The New Miss Universe is….

ap0908230363982.jpg

Congratulations are in order for Miss Venezuela!

At just 18-years-old, Stefania Fernandez has won the 2009 Miss Universe title.

The win marks the second time Venezuela has won the title in a row and just the sixth time overall. Last year, Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza won the crown.

And just what does the new Miss Universe have to say?

She told reporters after the pageant, "What do we Venezuelans have? That we are ourselves."

Deep!

The other top-five finalists included runner-up Miss Dominican Republic Ada Aimee de la Cruz; followed by Miss Kosovo, Droga Ganusha; Miss Australia, Rachael Finch; and Miss Puerto Rico, Mayra Matos Perez.

And perhaps the biggest oops moment was when Dayana dropped the crown while placing it on the new Miss Universe!

Check out the LOLz here and fast forward to the 1:30 mark.

Nickelodeon To Open Its Own Water Theme Park

nicklogooo.jpg

You know the Pitt-Jolie kids are gonna be all about this!

Nickelodeon has partnered up with Southern Star Amusement and the city of New Orleans to create their first ever water theme park called Nickelodeon Universe New Orleans.

Fun!

Southern Star will construct the park with brands licensed from Nickelodeon.

So what's that mean for the kiddies?

Looks like they'll have characters from some of their top shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer throughout the park.

There will also be rides, characters in costumes, games, food, shops and more. The water park will actually take up 65 acres and a spot that was formerly Jazzland/Six Flags.

Construction is set to begin later this year, and they're hoping to open their doors by the end of 2010.

The Rock Does Something Good And It's Not A Movie

dwayne-johnson-diabetesad.jpg

It's always nice to see celebs trying to help others.

And Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is taking that to a national level.

The wrestler turned actor has just been named as the new ambassador for the Diabetes Awareness Campaign.

According to Johnson's new public service announcement, he urges everyone to "Get outside. Play a game. Do something active together." Adding, "We can make a difference in our own families through exercise, eating right and teaching healthy behaviors to our children."

The campaign is aiming to reach out to the 24 million Americans living with diabetes, and hopefully help the estimated over 6 million who haven't been diagnosed yet.

Johnson adds, "I'm honored to serve as an ambassador to the Diabetes Aware campaign, and I want to encourage families to be active and eat right. Small steps can go a long way in managing diabetes, its complications, and raising healthy, active children."

Let's hope the campaign helps to bring awareness.

Nick Jonas would approve!

Kanye Bites The Hand That Feeds Him

kanye1.jpg

Kanye West wasn't joking around last week when at a dinner celebrating Hussein Chalayan he said he wasn't doing interviews anymore.

Fed up with the invasive nature of today's media, Kanye went on a free-style tirade against the press during his performance on Wednesday at the Casio G-Shock party, spitting lines like "I'm sorry I broke your arm/I meant to break your camera."

Funny considering Casio marketed the event as a press conference to be accompanied by a concert. Kanye seems to have a lot of pent up anger toward the press!

On the one hand, we kind of get it - we're sure it's frustrating as a major icon to have words put in your mouth and have your fans believe it.

That said, when you pursue a career as a public figure you sort of sign up for this shit. It's the price you pay for the fabu life you live.  The press keeps you current.

After the performance, he stayed true to his word.  When introduced to a reporter, he evaded all questions and instead drew the attention to his lady, model Amber Rose, telling the journo "she just did her first shoot for Ford."

That's cute.  At least he's not being a direct dick!

Still, we wonder, how does he plan to promote his albums?  Or his shoes?  Or all the other things we're sure he'll put out over the next few years?

He can only hate on the media (to stay in the media) for so long!

Copy, Paste, Save

paste-mag.jpg

Paste magazine was about to shut its doors, but thanks to a conservation campaign, the Georgia-based music mag will remain in business. For the time being.

The campaign raised $250,000 (impressive!) and the mag has "published two issues since the campaign began, sent a third to the printer and are seeing advertising pick up for the fall and expect to be around for a long time."

The magazine implemented several strategies in order to battle its financial crisis, including "a 20 percent pay cut, leasing out office space and eliminating all 'non-essential travel.'"

They hope to reinstate employees' salaries before the end of the year.

The Financial Times is predicting that "almost all" news organisations will be charging for online content within a year.

That's lame!

Farrah Fawcett's Friend To Pen Death Diary!

wenn-farrah__opt11.jpg

Just in case you forgot, Farrah Fawcett is still dead too. And her BFF Alana Stewart would like to remind you with a book she's written recounting her 30 year friendship with Fawcett as well as share her point of view on the actress' final days.

Stewart, who was at Fawcett's bedside throughout the entire cancer battle, says that she was encouraged not only by Fawcett, but by Fawcett's life partner, Ryan O'Neal, to write the book. She does admit that she "agonized over the decision," but you know what cures agony? Money!

My Journey with Farrah A Story of Life, Love, and Friendship is slated for an August release and will contain "a celebration of the incredible bond between the two women, the power of Farrah's spirit, and the memories from their 30 years together" and "never-before-seen photos and deeply intimate revelations on life and spirituality."

"Portions" of the proceeds will benefit the Farrah Fawcett Foundation for cancer research.
