Unemployment rates in NYC are alive and well! Ruthless publishing giant Condé Nast has shocked the media world by announcing the closing celebrated magazines such as Modern Bride, Elegant Bride, Cookie and Gourmet this morning! Despite its loss in ad pages, the folding of Gourmet, a magazine with enormous influence in the food world, comes as a shock!! The culinary bible has been published since 1940 and is survived by its much newer rival Bon Appétit. The bride and children mags were offshoots of much larger titles owned by the company, so its exile was more expected. Plus, who can afford to have a big wedding or kids these days! These were the first closings announced by the company in the recent months, although a warning was given for several publications to cut their budget by 25%. Yet, it doesn't seem they were given much time to implement those changes! It is not be said how many employees Condé Nasty has kicked to the curb, but we bet Anna Wintour is comfortably polishing her Louis Vuitton pitchfork in Permalink / 20 comments (RSS) / Forward this post » R-Patz and Maniston Save Print Media!
We don't need to see that much of her, yet R-Patz isn't showing enough! Despite our concerns, Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Aniston gave the publishing business a ray of hope for their diminishing industry. Each of them graced the cover of GQ this year, one of the only magazines to experience a growth in sales. Maniston's revealing January cover sold 330,000 copies barely leading Pattinson's smoldering issue selling 300,000 issues. "We try to make each page earn its space, and that probably yields more than any one cover or any one celeb, gorgeous though he or she may be,” said GQ Editor-In-Chief Jim Nelson. Let's make each page earn every inch! What about R-Patz in nothing but a necktie?! Permalink / 65 comments (RSS) / Forward this post » DIVA!!!
Yes, that really is Kate Gosselin! The mother of 8 appears on the cover of the new issue of People and looks super glam doing so. Girlfriend got herself a good makeup artist, good hair person and good stylist. Plus, she hired Mariah's retoucher! Work it out, mami! Congratulations are in order for Miss Venezuela! At just 18-years-old, Stefania Fernandez has won the 2009 Miss Universe title. The win marks the second time Venezuela has won the title in a row and just the sixth time overall. Last year, Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza won the crown. And just what does the new Miss Universe have to say? She told reporters after the pageant, "What do we Venezuelans have? That we are ourselves." Deep! The other top-five finalists included runner-up Miss Dominican Republic Ada Aimee de la Cruz; followed by Miss Kosovo, Droga Ganusha; Miss Australia, Rachael Finch; and Miss Puerto Rico, Mayra Matos Perez. And perhaps the biggest oops moment was when Dayana dropped the crown while placing it on the new Miss Universe! Check out the LOLz here and fast forward to the 1:30 mark. You know the Pitt-Jolie kids are gonna be all about this! Nickelodeon has partnered up with Southern Star Amusement and the city of New Orleans to create their first ever water theme park called Nickelodeon Universe New Orleans. Fun! Southern Star will construct the park with brands licensed from Nickelodeon. So what's that mean for the kiddies? Looks like they'll have characters from some of their top shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer throughout the park. There will also be rides, characters in costumes, games, food, shops and more. The water park will actually take up 65 acres and a spot that was formerly Jazzland/Six Flags. Construction is set to begin later this year, and they're hoping to open their doors by the end of 2010. It's always nice to see celebs trying to help others. And Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is taking that to a national level. The wrestler turned actor has just been named as the new ambassador for the Diabetes Awareness Campaign. According to Johnson's new public service announcement, he urges everyone to "Get outside. Play a game. Do something active together." Adding, "We can make a difference in our own families through exercise, eating right and teaching healthy behaviors to our children." The campaign is aiming to reach out to the 24 million Americans living with diabetes, and hopefully help the estimated over 6 million who haven't been diagnosed yet. Johnson adds, "I'm honored to serve as an ambassador to the Diabetes Aware campaign, and I want to encourage families to be active and eat right. Small steps can go a long way in managing diabetes, its complications, and raising healthy, active children." Let's hope the campaign helps to bring awareness. Nick Jonas would approve!
