ANOTHER New Ghostbusters Movie Is Coming!

Ghostbusters New Movie Jason Reitman

We thought the franchise was dead… and yet it’s starting to float
Entertainment Weekly dropped a scoop on Tuesday, revealing Sony would be giving it a shot with another Ghostbusters film!
However, they clearly didn’t have as much confidence in the 2016 film as they implied at the time because this time they’re returning to the original non-reboot universe.

In fact, they’re getting as close to the original as possible — by handing the franchise to family!
Director Jason Reitman (TullyUp In The Air) is taking the reins from his father Ivan Reitman, who directed the original 1984 hit. He told EW:

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.
This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

We don’t think that’s meant as a dig at the 2016 version, which threw out the original events — but it kinda feels like it.
On that film, Reitman clarified:

“I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”

What WILL this movie do? Will Bill MurraySigourney Weaver, or any other original cast members return?
The studio is staying tight-lipped for the moment. Reitman, who wrote the script with Monster House director Gil Kenan, offered:

“This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”

What do YOU think of another reboot… er, sorry, sequel?? …thing?
