60-Day Potato Diet Draws To An End

60-Day Potato Diet Draws To An End

60 days. Potatoes and only potatoes for every meal.

That sounds awful, but it’s exactly what the head of the Washington State Potato Commission Chris Voigt did in an attempt to prove that potatoes aren’t bad for you. In fact, Chris lost 21 pounds and dropped 67 points from his cholesterol count!

Chris’s main goal in going on this diet was to attempt to influence federal proposals to bar or limit potatoes in some national programs, such as lunch programs to feed underprivileged kids, because they feel that they are bad for people. He says that he won’t consider the stunt a success unless he see some reversals in those policies.

Said Chris:

“If we are successful in convincing USDA to put potatoes in the programs, then I’d call it a 100 percent success. But it’s been great that the publicity and the general awareness the public has now and how it’s drawn some attention to the nutritional value of potatoes. I just consider that gravy.”

We├óΓé¼Γäóre unsure whether Chris├óΓé¼Γäó potato diet will have any effect on national policy, he does have a point — potatoes, like almost any food, can be fine in moderation. Potatoes may have lower nutritional values than most vegetables, but they aren├óΓé¼Γäót BAD for you.

Maybe the national policy should be changed to just reduce the amount of potatoes in lunches? What do U think?
