Caitlyn Jenner may have been named a runner-up for Time‘s Person of the Year after having such a groundbreaking year, but she wants everyone to know that she isn’t officially a spokesperson for the transgender community.

Even though she adamantly explained that role has been projected on her by the media, the 66-year-old opened up to the popular publication about how she hopes to do her best to represent transgender individuals, saying:
“The more as I proceed and go forward, it is important for me to try to project a good image for this community.”
But, the “good image” she wants to present has upset quite a few people. The former Olympian describes it, explaining:
“One thing that has always been important for me, and it may seem very self-absorbed or whatever, is first of all your presentation of who you are. I think it’s much easier for a trans woman or a trans man who authentically kind of looks and plays the role.”
Hmm. Isn’t the whole point of raising awareness about the struggles faced within this community so that transgender people can be accepted and comfortable just being themselves, not trying to fit a certain mold or image that appeases our critical society?
Unfortunately, Perezcious readers, if you thought that remark was bad, the reality star’s controversial comment only got worse when she said:
“So what I call my presentation. I try to take that seriously. I think it puts people at ease. If you’re out there and, to be honest with you, if you look like a man in a dress, it makes people uncomfortable.”
We honestly couldn’t believe we were reading this from this year’s 6th-runner-up for Person of the Year, let alone the woman who came out as transgender on national television, and transitioned with the entire world watching.
And, she seemed to continue the conversation as if she didn’t even realize what she had just said was highly offensive, adding:
“So the first thing I can do is try to present myself well. I want to dress well. I want to look good. When I go out, as Kim [Kardashian West] says, you’ve got to rock it because the paparazzi will be there.”
If we remember correctly, it was a comment like this that sent Rose McGowan on a Twitter tirade last month. And, get ready because the social media sh*tstorm over Cait’s latest statement has already started.
Users have taken to the status-sharing site to call out the star’s rude remarks. Take a look at some of the reactions (below):
