Lea Michele is apologizing for her past behavior on the Glee set following former co-star Samantha Ware‘s accusations of “traumatic microagressions,” including one threat to “s**t” in her wig.
After getting dropped by her partnership with HelloFresh, the Scream Queens actress took to Instagram early Wednesday morning with a lengthy note in response to the backlash she received for tweeting out her support for George Floyd.

Without directly addressing Samantha, Lea first explained her intention behind the tweet before referencing how fellow cast members from the series had not-so-great things to say about her behavior:
“One of the most important lessons of the last few weeks is that we need to take the time to listen and learn about other people’s perspectives and any role we have played or anything we can do to help address the injustices that they face. When I tweeted the other day, it was meant to be a show of support for our friends and neighbors and communities of color during this really difficult time, but the responses I received to what I posted have made me also focus specifically on how my own behavior towards fellow cast members was perceived by them.”
Michele went on to say she has no memory of threatening to “s**t” in Ware’s wig before adding there were a few reasons as to why she could have been “perceived as insensitive or inappropriate.” But she feels she is taking a hard look at herself amid quarantine:
“While I don’t remember ever making this specific statement and I have never judged others by their background or color of their skin, that’s not really the point, what matters is that I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people. Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused. We all can grow and change and I have definitely used these past several months to reflect on my own shortcomings.”
The pregnant star continued in her note though, sharing how she’d like to do better for her child, who is due in the coming months:
“I am a couple of months from becoming a mother and I know I need to keep working to better myself and take responsibility for my actions, so that I can be a real role model for my child and so I can pass along my lessons and mistakes, so that they can learn from me. I listened to these criticisms and I am learning and while I am very sorry, I will be better in the future from this experience.”
Perhaps she’s not listening enough?? Pointing the fault at the way she was “perceived” when her former co-stars were describing what her actual behavior was, it seems she missed the point.
Her public apology, which was seemingly directed at fans rather than Samantha and others who spoke up, received a divided reaction from followers commenting on her post. Some rightfully called out her behavior and wording:
“Well it’s not really a direct apology to the people you hurt”
“‘I’m sorry if you thought I was acting racist'”
“Probably don’t recall the behavior because seems to be a pattern for you with costars and probably just anybody in general that you can’t gain anything from.”
“We Love you, but please you need to think about your behavior!! ❤️”
“Okay but why does she keep saying ‘perceived as’ that’s basically her saying that she doesn’t think she acted the racist way people think she did”
“This apology is as fake as the personality you put on during interviews. ?”

Meanwhile, others praised the singer and actress for not sweeping the controversy under the rug:
