When you’re really, really rich… love just looks a little different!
Mariah Carey and James Packer‘s prenuptial agreement has seen the light of day, and it is absolutely insane — no doubt a testament to the fact that, well, billionaires like Packer tend to be a little kooky!
Still, this one is VERY involved… and you’ve gotta read it to believe it! No wonder they had that explosive breakup last month!!

Apparently Carey ended up rejecting it during negotiations, with her people calling it “tacky and insulting,” according to TMZ, and for good reason, too — because some of the conditions are crazy:
“Except for gifts between them for their engagement, wedding or on birthdays and anniversaries, no item of jewelry and/or personal adornment costing over $250,000 will be deemed a gift unless accompanied by, or promptly followed by, a writing specifically stating ‘This is my gift to you.'”
Nothing like outlining exactly how you’ll surprise your wife-to-be with a legal note to follow! LOLz!!
It goes further than that, though — Packer said he’d purchase certain clothing for Mariah, but won’t do so for her children, and the clothing can’t be used for Carey’s business pursuits or music performances. So specific!!!

There’s more, too, with this passage (and the amount left blank!):
“James shall cause a credit card(s) to be issued for use by Mariah and staff … the amount of expenses … shall not exceed US $____ per calendar month.”
It’s things like that amount that was being negotiated by Carey’s and Packer’s lawyers when everything fell apart, apparently.
The prenup goes on:
“James shall provide the use of one private aircraft, of his selection, for Mariah’s personal use, or that of her children and nannies only when James, in his sole discretion, determines it is appropriate to do so.”
Negotiating out how to use the private plane after the wedding… haven’t we all been there?!

But according to the TMZ report, the real reason why everything blew up centered on a disagreement about how much money the pair was going to exchange over the marriage itself.
As we already knew, Carey had wanted — and claimed James agreed to — a $50 million lump sum to be paid to her if the marriage failed.
But in the prenup, Packer’s people had written this:
“James will pay Mariah, and Mariah shall accept, $6 million dollars per year for each full year of marriage, up to a maximum of $30 million … adjusted pro-rata on a weekly basis [$151,385 per week].”
That difference — potentially more than $20 million — was a HUGE sticking point, from what we can tell. Gotta fight for your own interests, after all.
