Martina Navratilova Shuns Tennis Icon's Anti-Gay Comments

Martina Navratilova is not only a world-class tennis champion, she’s a champion for human rights!
Before participating in a legends’ doubles match on Sunday at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia, the 55-year-old spoke in favor of same-sex marriage in response to some ignorant comments made by Margaret Court.
Shortly before the tournament, the 69-year-old former Australian Open champion told reporters:

“Politically correct education has masterfully escorted homosexuality out from behind closed doors, into the community openly and now is aggressively demanding marriage rights that are not theirs to take.”

We got news for you dear, they are rights the LGBT community not only greatly deserves, but rights they are gonna get!
Navratilova couldn’t agree more and served up a very classy response to Court’s comments, telling reporters:

“Playing on Margaret Court Arena, it├óΓé¼Γäós an honor, as always, to be on that court. You know, it├óΓé¼Γäós not a personal issue. Clearly Margaret Court├óΓé¼Γäós views that she has expressed on same sex marriage, I think are outdated. But it├óΓé¼Γäós not about any one person. It├óΓé¼Γäós not about religious rights, it├óΓé¼Γäós about human rights. It├óΓé¼Γäós a secular view, not a religious view.├óΓé¼┬¥

Right on! Some people just don’t have common sense and, unfortunately, Margaret Court is one of them. Martina, who hasn’t spoken to the tennis icon for years, continued to explain the outdated belief, saying:

“She was all about Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. She repeated that about four or five times, so I just felt I couldn├óΓé¼Γäót get through to her. Maybe she thought she could get through to me.├óΓé¼┬¥

The ol’ “God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,” argument gets us every time. Do people really think that just because an expression rhymes it’s true? LOLz!
Marriage is about LOVE, not gender!
We won’t hold our breath for Margaret Court to change her preposterous point-of-view anytime soon, but are so happy that people like Martina Navratilova are openly throwing their support behind marriage equality! It won’t be long for the rest of the world to follow suit!
