Michael Madsen Says Estranged Wife Drove Their Son To Die By Suicide

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

Two years after Michael Madsen’s son sadly died by suicide, he’s pointing his finger at his estranged wife.

Back in 2022, we reported with heavy hearts that Hudson Madsen, the 26-year-old son of the Reservoir Dogs star and his longtime wife DeAnna Madsen, had sadly died by suicide. At the time, Michael was completely shocked and heartbroken, revealing in a statement:

“I didn’t see any signs of depression. It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.”

Ever since then, Michael has seemingly been leading a relatively rocky life. He was arrested just one month after Hudson’s death for trespassing in a Malibu resident’s home. And since then, tension between him and his wife has only grown. Just last month, the 66-year-old was arrested again — this time on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge — after getting into a “disagreement” with DeAnna, according to his rep. His bail was set at $20,000, which he posted and returned home shortly after.

And just one week after that, the LA County District Attorney told TMZ that they wouldn’t be filing charges against him because of a lack of evidence. Around the same time, Michael’s longtime attorney Perry Wander told The Hollywood Reporter that DeAnna “broke into” his Malibu residence, and that the Kill Bill actor “confronted her and asked her to leave.” The attorney added at the time that it was an “ongoing problem.” Perry said:

“Michael has shown immense compassion and restraint during this period towards his estranged wife. He’s definitely not guilty of domestic violence.”

Now, one month later and after 28 years of marriage, Michael has filed for divorce… and in his new filing, he is alleging some pretty disheartening things.

In a legal petition brought to the court on Wednesday, the frequent Quentin Tarantino collaborator cited irreconcilable differences as the umbrella reason for divorce. He also claimed the pair actually separated all the way back in January 2022 — the same month their late son passed away. And in addition, he denied the domestic violence charges he was slapped with, and instead alleged to be a “victim” of his estranged wife’s abuse. He wrote:

“Respondent also significantly contributed to my personal issues as well. I am a victim in an abusive, co-dependent, and toxic relationship that culminated in the Respondent breaking into my residence and having me wrongfully arrested for DV.”

Wow.

But an even more upsetting allegation Michael made had to do with his late son’s death. In the filing, he claimed DeAnna drove Hudson to die by suicide due to “her neglect, drinking and alcoholism.” Oof. How completely awful. We certainly hope that’s not true, because if so… damn.

At this time, DeAnna has not responded. However, Michael asked for a domestic violence restraining order and claimed that “irreconcilable differences” does “not adequately describe the divorce filing.” Yikes. What a truly gut-wrenching situation all around. Sending love…
