Some very sad news coming from one of NASCAR’s hottest drivers today. Trevor Bayne announced on Tuesday that he has multiple sclerosis!
But he is not letting this diagnosis stop his racing career!
Trevor, who became the youngest winner in Daytona 500 history back in 2011, plans to compete as scheduled this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The 22-year-old spoke to the public to discuss his commitment to keep driving despite his new health challenges. He explained:

├óΓé¼┼ôThere are currently no symptoms and I’m committed to continuing to take the best care of my body as possible. As for now, I want to close out the season strong this weekend at Homestead and then shift my focus on getting ready to compete for the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) Championship in 2014.├óΓé¼┬¥

Bayne’s sister, Sarah, also has MS. The disease, while not considered hereditary, is more common amongst certain genetic variations shared by family members. Multiple sclerosis attacks the central nervous system and has no cure.
In 2011, Trevor was hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic after suffering from nausea, fatigue, double vision and numbness in his arm. He originally thought those symptoms were brought on by an insect bite.
Now that he’s been diagnosed with MS, Trevor says he is more motivated to win than ever. He admitted:

“I’ve never been more driven to compete. My goals are the same as they’ve been since I started racing. I want to compete at the highest level and I want to win races and championships. I am in the best shape I’ve ever been in and I feel good.├óΓé¼┬¥

Pedal to the metal, dude! Your courage is truly inspiring to us and all of your fans!
