Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a huge success, rebooting and revitalizing a franchise many thought had been murdered by the villain Jar Jar Binks.
The film’s box office and critical reception boded very well for planned sequels, and even standalone spinoff movies.
But apparently Disney is going to have to put in some extra hours if they want to make the first one of those films work…

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story tells the tale of the group of spies who stole the plans for the original Death Star, the ones Princess Leia gives to R2-D2 at the beginning of the original movie, A New Hope.
Reports came out over the weekend that the wartorn prequel was going to be undergoing some major reshoots.
How major?
According to MakingStarWars, the crew has revealed a LOT is being redone — in all they estimate around 40 percent of the film!!!
Apparently, the script was being tweaked all through the production, with Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) doing his own pass on Chris Weitz‘s screenplay.

Reportedly, the studio liked McQuarrie’s script so much, he’s now working on the reshoots alongside director Gareth Edwards! Considering McQuarrie has become Tom Cruise‘s go-to guy in recent years, writing and directing the fantastic Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, this is probably a good thing.
As for just how big this is, 32 sets had to be rebuilt, and the reshoots are going to take eight 6-day weeks.
Good thing there’s plenty of time left…
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters December 16.
