Salma Hayek Claims She's Always Been 'Borderline Chubby' But She Couldn't Look More Flawless In This Spread For The Edit

Salma Hayek appears in The Edit.
Salma Hayek
has her own list of heroines, but she is definitely one of ours!
We are forever in awe of not only her beauty, but her talent, determination, and work ethic!
At 48 years of age, she is still going strong, and, in fact, is busier than ever!
She even started exercising!
The actress recently told Net-A-Porter‘s The Edit:

“I never exercised my whole life, but now I do yoga. I was always borderline chubby, because I like my food and, frankly, I like my wine. I have to say, I’m pushing 50 but I feel great. I looked worse in my youth! I’m in good shape right now.”

Salma is also working a lot more than usual, even though she believes she’s not easy to cast. And she acknowledges Hollywood’s problem with ageism, especially when it comes to female actors:

“This is by far the busiest I have been in my life. The funny thing is that I really don’t even understand how [it all] came about. Maybe because when you don’t want something as much, you’re not desperate.
You will see some of the best work of my life this year, because I’ve had the opportunity; because [the directors] gave me the roles. If you think about it, I’m limited by the way I talk and by the way I look. I’m 48 years old. Amazing, talented people [stop finding work] at 32, 33 sometimes! Not so much in London, but in the US it’s crazy. Also, for those who have never seen me in person├óΓé¼┬ªI’m quite short. I have an overly… wavy body. I’m not like the girl next door who is easy to cast. I don’t fit into any of the stereotypes of a woman that should continue to work.”

This is also one actress who won’t be denying that she’s a feminist. She’s been working on women’s rights issues with Chime for Change for several years now!
And she’s not afraid to speak up on issues that concern women, despite her own privileged position:

“We’re constantly scrutinized, so we learn to be hard on ourselves because everybody is hard on us, even our children, because we are the ones who are there all the time, providing that attention. In the workplace, men get better paid.
They are more easily promoted than [women]. In order to be considered a good wife or mother, and in the workplace, the expectations are so high. We have to be more demanding in the workplace. We need to be more assertive in that department, and stand our ground in our own homes, and teach our children to give us a break and be more appreciative.”
