Shade Or No Shade? Taylor Swift References Kanye West's 'Imma Let You Finish' Moment In VMAs Interview!

Taylor Swift shades Kanye West at the VMAs

Did you really think Taylor Swift would roll up to the MTV VMAs this year without referencing that iconic “imma let you finish” moment?

As it turns out, the Lover songstress may have went there — way back to 2009 when Kanye West rudely crashed her acceptance speech and effectively started a decade-long feud between the two artists — during a pre-show interview on Monday.

When asked by host Terrence J about her after-party plans, the 29-year-old couldn’t help but make what many took as an ever-so-subtle jab at Yeezy’s antics that fateful year. She said:

“You never know what can happen on this show, as I’ve learned. But we’re just probably going to figure out a way to celebrate anyway.”

Ha! That’s our Taylor: throwing shade at her enemies expertly masqueraded as innocuous, off-handed remarks. A true pro!

Or… are we reading too much into it? Do we need to calm down? Surely, some Swift sympathizers would say the remark was a genuine response with no shade attached.

So, what do YOU think, Perezcious shade detectors?

Whether or not Tay was referencing the iconic moment, it will undoubtedly go on to live in VMAs infamy for all time. Lest we forget, Kanye rushed on stage and grabbed the mic from a then-19-year-old Swift’s hands and told the audience Beyoncé’s Single Ladies video deserved to win the award over T.Swift’s You Belong With Me.

After the incident, Tay and Ye made peace for a time — until the rapper called Taylor a “bitch” in his 2016 song Famous, launching the second act of their feud.

As fans remember, Mr. West claimed he got permission from the pop star to include her name in the track, but Tay insisted she never approved the final lyric. During the Grammys the following year, she shaded Kanye while accepting the award for Album of the Year for 1989, telling the crowd:

“As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammy’s twice, I want to say to all the young women out there—there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be greatest feeling in the world.”

By this point, it’s clear Tay has a knack for peppering her words with shades of shade.

But is that what she did to Kanye during this year’s pre-show interview? Or was it all in good fun? Cast your votes (above)!
