Three REAL stories about how adopted pets saved three REAL people’s lives.
Digger:
Digger was a hound mix who was adopted from local rescuers the previous summer by teacher Teresa Oney.
One cold winter night he began whining, insistent on going outside, which was unheard-of behavior for him.
Oney finally decided to let Digger into the backyard to go to the bathroom, or so she thought, but instead the dog positioned himself on the back deck and stared intently at the back fence.
Oney turned to step back inside to warm up when she heard a weak “help me” coming from the other side of the fence.
It turns out her elderly neighbor had slipped and fallen in the snow, rendering herself unable to move.
Digger’s ears were sensitive enough to hear the injured woman in the distance and saved her life!

Peaches:
Peaches was a female boxer/shepherd mix who was adopted by Jeremy Noss in 2008 while at an adoption event seeking a male dog.
Jeremy felt an unexplainable connection with her and adopted her instead. Was it fate?
One day in 2009, Noss returned home from a chiropractic appointment feeling ill and laid down on the couch to rest.
Peaches, not yet 1, alert and worried, settled in beside him and began licking him profusely, to the point where his attempts to push her away did not deter her licking.
Noss finally arose and realized he could barely walk or talk, and one side of his face drooped. He was having a stroke, caused, he later learned, by a dissected vertebral artery.
That’s one smart dog!
We saved the best one for last and for all the cat lovers out there.
Inky:
Glen Kruger found himself unable to move or be heard after his attic door accidentally disengaged and knocked him down his basement steps.
With bloody head lacerations, a broken arm, and a completely numb neck his only company was his adopted cat Inky (pictured above) staring at him from the top of the steps.
Referring to his wife who was fast asleep upstairs, he decided to take a chance and called out, “Go get Brenda!”
To his surprise Inky took off and actually hurled himself at the bedroom door repeatedly and yowled like a jaguar until the woman awoke, followed the cat and discovered her severely injured husband.
These are incredible stories that makes us love and appreciate our pets even more and make us want to give abandoned and abused animals another chance!
Please consider adopting before buying a pet because you never know just how grateful that animal may be.
