TikTok Star Lynn Yamada Davis, AKA Cooking With Lynja, Dead At 67

Beloved social media personality Lynn Yamada Davis, best known to fans as Cooking With Lynja, has passed away. She was 67.

Her daughter, Hannah Mariko Shofet, shared the news with The New York Times on Friday. She revealed her mom died on January 1 at Riverview Medical Center in New Jersey from esophageal cancer. Her son, Tim Davis, also shared a video on her TikTok account saying “her final moments were super peaceful” and “she was surrounded by the people she loved most, her friends and family.” Becoming visibly choked up, he added:

“The internet’s grandma. Man, she was the best. I’m so glad that you guys all got to experience how wonderful of a person she was and that you guys treated her so well.”

He also took a walk down memory lane, sharing some of his favorite photos and moments with his late mom. See the tribute (below):

You’re the best mom I could have ever asked for but an even better friend. I love you mom ❤️

So heartbreaking. Per The New York Times, Lynn had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2019 and diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2021. The former software engineer began her career on social media around that time, posting cooking videos on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. In June 2020, she went viral online for a video of her making a bacon, egg, and cheese on an english muffin. Check it out (below):

Her account continued to grow from there. Three years later, her TikTok account has more than 17.5 million followers, her YouTube account has almost 10 million subscribers, and her Instagram account has over 2 million followers. Wow! Her pages remained active following her death. The New York Times stated that Lynn asked her son to post the rest of her edited videos. However, Tim said nothing else will be shared on the account once the last Cooking with Lynja videos are up.

Since the news of her death broke, fans have been expressing their heartbreak and offering their condolences to the family. Lynn’s frequent collaborator and friend, TikToker Nick DiGiovanni, paid tribute to her on social media, saying:

“I’ll always remember her as the woman who fought off her cancer diagnosis for as long as she could humbly and quietly without ever complaining until it got the best of her.”

A beautiful tribute to someone who shared so much with the rest of us.

We are sending love and light to Lynn’s loved ones during this hard time. Rest in peace…
