Todd and Kyle Chrisley are finally opening up about the 28-year-old’s recent hospitalization — and it’s not what we expected.
As we reported in August, the Chrisley Knows Best star’s eldest son was said to have had a bad reaction to an unnamed prescription medication, prompting him to seek medical help. Fortunately, a spokesperson at the time said the young man was “fine” and “doing great.”

In the latest episode of the podcast Chrisley Confessions, Kyle reveals this was not the whole truth; he also attempted suicide prior to being placed in medical care.
He explained:
“I take medication and I had a bad side effect to it and I tried to take my own life… With the meds, I got all kinds of crazy thinking going on.”
Fortunately, Kyle now feels a “lot better” and is already back at his job.
His father — who, along with wife Julie Chrisley, was indicted on charges of tax evasion, bank fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy last month — added:
“I think some of the medications they put you on — that you had not been on — one of the side effects is suicidal tendencies and we’re now off of that.”
Amid news of his father and stepmother’s legal drama, Kyle went on Facebook and announced he is no longer estranged from his family.
During their podcast chat, the two discussed their relationship during the years where they were not close.
In fact, Todd admitted to hiring “a private investigator” to spy on Kyle when he worked for UPS, divulging:
“Folks, I hired a private investigator to watch him every week, send me photographs of him in his uniform looking so handsome just to make sure my son was okay… For all of you folks and tabloid writers that wanted to write I turned my back on my child, I don’t owe you an explanation.”
The USA Network patriarch continued:
“I prayed every day for his recovery, for his wellness, for his mental health and for God to bring him back when he was ready.”
In regards to his eldest daughter Lindsie — who alleged her dad and her brother, Chase, tried to extort her with a sex tape to get her to lie, presumably, about the tax scandal — he remarked:
“My door is always open to my daughter Lindsie… I love her always and I will die loving her, but I have right now, I have four of my children and I am grateful for that. And the door is open for the fifth at all times.”
During an August podcast episode, Todd previously stated the 29-year-old “is forgiven.”
