Toy Makers OUT OF THEIR MINDS Use Pill Bottles Filled With Candy As A Promotional Tool For Mommy Bloggers

toy company gives out pill bottles filled with candy
We can’t imagine what they were possibly thinking!
Bright Starts, a company that produces toys and gear for toddlers, wanted to stand out at BlogHer, so they decided to go with a tongue-in-cheek promotion.
They used realistic pill bottles — which were filled with Red Hots — that were labled as ├óΓé¼╦£giggle pills├óΓé¼Γäó which ├óΓé¼┼ômay cause serious laughter.├óΓé¼┬¥
Obviously, parents were NOT pleased because why would they want to promote pill popping to their children… and more importantly, the possibility of thinking other pill bottles also contained candy. It’s bad enough that pills look like candy on their own!
Several mommy bloggers got on Bright Starts about this, and they responded! Miles Bohannan, vp of marketing communications for Kids II (Bright Start’s parent company) explained:

├óΓé¼┼ôOur ├óΓé¼┼ôprescription for laughter├óΓé¼┬¥ in a pill bottle was part of a booth experience designed to support Bright Starts’ ├óΓé¼┼ôFun Comes First├óΓé¼┬¥ campaign, which also featured a ├óΓé¼┼ôBaby Laugh Index├óΓé¼┬¥ quiz and a ├óΓé¼┼ôdress as a baby├óΓé¼┬¥ photo booth├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥all very tongue-in-cheek reminders of the importance of baby laughter.
Once we realized that the giveaways were concerning to some, we immediately stopped passing them out. We certainly understand and regret any misunderstanding this has caused, and welcome the opportunity to visit further should that be helpful.”

We’re glad they realized that this is not appropriate for kids, parents, or anyone for that matter!
Hopefully other companies will think first before they do something this again.
