'Sonic The Hedgehog' Movie Debuts New & Improved Character Design Following Massive Fan Backlash!

New trailer with updated Sonic the hedgehog released

The new Sonic the Hedgehog movie just got a major, much-anticipated makeover!

When the first trailer for the Sega video game-inspired film arrived earlier this year, it was immediately met with criticism over the famous cartoon’s unfamiliar, creepy, and human-like appearance.

However, on Tuesday, Paramount Pictures dropped a fresh preview for the live-action/CGI hybrid feature and it’s clear Sonic underwent some huge changes that have already sparked another frenzy among fans!

The electric blue hedgehog no longer boasts human-looking legs, teeth, and white hands. Instead, it now favors the traditional drawing with larger, more animated eyes, white gloves, a smoother face, and thin legs — bringing its creep factor down to a much more palpable level.

Wow. Impressive!

You’ll notice the clip shared many of the same scenes the original one did while teasing the mayhem that ensues when the fictional creature (played by Ben Schwartz) teams up with policeman Tom Wachowski (played by James Marsden) to bring down an evil villain (played by Jim Carrey) who wants to use Sonic’s power to take over the world.

But the storyline aside, we’re still shaking in our boots over how good the character looks!

It’s been seven months since director Jeff Fowler announced there would be visual adjustments made to the movie back in April following the initial backlash. Shortly after the revamp began in May, he tweeted:

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear. You aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast.”

He also added the Sonic-verse flick would be delayed a while to make the changes and it’s currently slated to hit theaters on Valentine’s Day 2020.

With three months to go until then, Fowler took to Twitter to share the happy update with followers, writing:

“Today is the DAY! Could not be more excited to share our new Sonic with you. THANK YOU for your patience and support. This wouldn’t have been possible without the fans. #SonicMovie.”

Judging by the spirited reactions, we’d say people are loving what they see so far! See some of the best replies (below):
