Casey Kasem, the longtime American Top 40 host, is suffering from an advanced form of Parkinson’s disease that has left him bedridden.
His children want to see him before it’s too late which usually wouldn’t be a problem.
But Casey’s wife Jean has not allowed any of them to see their father, and is being sued by the children who want visitation rights!
Jean has fired back and has somewhat explained her husband’s situation and the reasons for her current position.
Here’s what the court documents that Jean filed said:
“I care for him day in and day out and do my best to provide for his care and well-being. For the most part, he is now bedridden.”
Jean also explained why her children have not been permitted by her to see him. Although she definitely leaves the details cupboard a little bare!
The court documents read:
“[Because of an earlier] disturbing [incident]. [Visits by the children would be an] intolerable and an unpleasant experience for us all, including specifically [for] Casey.”
Hmm. We wonder what that is all about! We’re sure more details will come to light once this case goes to trial. Which is seeming ever more likely!
Although lawyers for both sides have determined that Casey Kasem IS receiving adequate care from Jean – it isn’t clear if Casey Kasem is the one who doesn’t want to see his children.
Both sides are arguing that they are the ones whom are supposed to be in charge of the former radio host’s health.
Casey’s daughter Julie claims to have a document, signed in 2007, that gives her authority, but the opposing side’s lawyers argue that document is a sham. While Jean has a document signed in 2011 that gives her authority, but the opposing side is arguing that document is BS since Casey’s health was deteriorating at that point.
Here’s what Jean’s message to Casey’s kids is:
“Jean’s message to her stepkids is: Please respect the privacy of your father even though you don’t respect mine. Don’t bring anymore unwanted publicity to the Kasem name. Jean determined that it wasn’t healthy for Casey to have his kids in the house. I can’t go into details why. But she had to draw the line.”
Daughter Kerri had this message in response:
“We don’t think our dad had the [mental] capacity to sign what he did. We’re not stopping to win the right to see our dad. We want visitation rights and will do whatever we can to win that.”
Buckle into your seats folks!
Because the rest of this legal ride looks rather bumpy! We’ll see what happens!
