Colleen Ballinger Apologizes For Racism, Fat-Shaming, And... Sending Her Underwear To A 13-Year-Old Boy??

Colleen Ballinger Miranda Sings Apology Video Racism Underwear Teen Boy

We’ve seen some apology videos, but we’re not sure we’ve ever seen someone apologize for SO MUCH all at once!

YouTube star Colleen Ballinger, who gained fame with her YouTuber satire character Miranda Sings, sat down and said she wanted to have an “honest conversation” with her viewers after a LOT had come out about her.

Colleen started with, sadly, the most universal of offenses — some racism from her past!

Apparently in a video she and her sister made back in 2006, long before she came up with Miranda, they played VERY broad Latina women, something pretty universally seen these days as racist for white women to do. Colleen holds herself fully accountable for this, saying those characters were “completely based in racial stereotypes”:

“It is not funny, and it is completely hurtful. I am so ashamed and embarrassed that I ever thought this was okay. I was a sheltered teenager who was stupid and ignorant and clearly extremely culturally insensitive.”

She also says she and her sister did eventually realize how offensive this was, which is why they deleted the video a few years later — so no one would be “hurt” by it.

She also apologized for a video in which she fat-shamed a woman who sat next to her on a flight, again fully taking responsibility for the awful things she said, saying:

“That is not the woman I am today.”

The last simple thing she apologized for was the rather cavalier way she had previously spoken about an incident which happened when she was a child, in which a dog bit her and had to be put down.

She made clear she did not mean to be speak “insensitively” about the tragedy at all — and that she absolutely feels guilty about the poor dog’s death, even “still to this day as a 33-year-old woman.” She added:

“To anyone and everyone who was hurt or offended by the statements I made when I was younger, I am so, so sorry. I hope you all can see that the person I am today is so far from the person I was a decade ago.”

So why did all this come out just now anyway? Well, Internet sleuths started looking into her past after some pretty sketchy accusations last month… And that part is anything but simple.

A 17-year-old boy named Adam McIntyre dropped a video two weeks ago explaining his odd relationship and problematic dealings with the comedian — with receipts.

According to the Irish teen, he was a stan who ran Miranda fan accounts when Colleen and her GBF Kory DeSoto found his Twitter and thought he was really funny. Kory wore a bra and panties over his clothes during a livestream, and they sent them to the teen — knowing full well he was only 13 years old at the time! They even joked about how his parents might freak out (which they apparently did). WTF?

Adam and Colleen struck up a real friendship; their correspondence even got quite personal despite his young age.

The more problematic stuff comes about a year later when Adam says Colleen asked him to help with the Miranda Twitter account, to ghostwrite for her essentially. How can a YouTuber afford that? Well, she couldn’t apparently; Adam says she never paid him.

He says he tweeted for her over a whole year — doing real work, keeping up with her analytics and everything — thinking the whole time he was going to get to come to America and become an intern. Eventually he posted those jokey “coming out” tweets where she came out as a Meghan Trainor fan. Her fans did NOT like that; they saw it as queerbaiting. It was that which, according to him, caused Colleen to ice him out — and just stop talking to him altogether! Not only that, she supposedly started trashing him with her other fans?!

OK, so what does Colleen have to say about all that? She admits a lot of it — but plays it down quite a bit.

Regarding the underwear, she reiterates that happened on a livestream in front of everyone — and she didn’t realize how icky it was from the outside:

“It was a big joke within the fandom. In my mind at the time, this was no different than all the other weird stuff I send to my fans as a joke. Now in hindsight, I see how completely stupid of me. I should have never sent that.”

On his unpaid work for her she swears that did not last a year but a single day in which he did the infamous “coming out” tweets but that’s it. She says it was a “test run” — and since it didn’t go well did not continue:

“I knew better than to let someone else tweet for me. I should have reviewed closely every single thing that was going to come from ‘Miranda’s’ mouth. I let him know that I loved him, he did a great job. It was my fault, not his.”

She also says the reason she didn’t respond to all this earlier was “to respect the wishes” of his mother! Hmm…

Here’s Colleen’s full video, with ALL THE APOLOGIES EVER!
