Demi Lovato Reportedly Thought She Could Handle Addiction With 'Controlled Consumption'

We knew from her hit song that Demi Lovato was no longer Sober.
But according to the latest word, it wasn’t a slip that led to her reported overdose and hospitalization.

A source tells People the Heart Attack singer had consciously decided to go back to drinking, thinking she could use alcohol only in moderation.
Unfortunately, says the insider, that led to her down a “slippery slope”:

“Demi began to feel that the belief that total abstinence is the only way to deal with addiction is false.
She essentially said that she felt it wasn’t the only way and that she can handle her addictions, and she would rather attempt controlled consumption. She felt that she could drink in moderation and she believed she wouldn’t return to harder drug use, and that alcohol was never really a problem as much as other things.”

Unfortunately Demi was doing so well for so long, it apparently led to her getting too confident
The source explains:

“It led to her believing in the myth of moderation and controlled consumption, which absolutely does not work if you are an addict. Every addict who fools themselves into thinking they can ‘use responsibly’ is merely back on the slippery slope to rock bottom, which they’ll hit eventually.”

The lesson seems to be that you simply can’t beat addiction by giving in to it. Even a little.
Now we’re hearing Demi will be going back to complete sobriety with another rehab stint.
We wish her all the strength and luck in the world.
