Jeffree Star Apologizes For 'Offensive' Old Internet Content: 'It Does Not Reflect Who I Am Today'

Jeffree Star is owning up to his actions — again.

The makeup mogul has been an internet presence since the early 2000s, so as you can imagine, there’s a lot of old — and often problematic — content of his floating around. He’s probably one of the most frequently “canceled” celebs, which means he’s had to issue a LOT of apologies over the years.

On Thursday, Star posted his most recent mea culpa to Twitter. The apology concerns three specific things: 1) past use of the term “Lipstick Nazi,” 2) an image of perpetuating self harm, and 3) and photo of himself posing with a confederate flag. He also “cleared up” rumors he had ever had a makeup company before Jeffree Star Cosmetics.

Star noted that the term “Nazi” was used in the past as casual slang, as in the infamous Seinfeld “Soup Nazi.” Acknowledging that this was “not an excuse,” he wrote:

“When I was 17 I stupidly referred to anyone who was obsessed with makeup, as a ‘lipstick nazi’ – it was offensive, derogatory and for shock value. It does not reflect who I am today or what I stand for or have EVER stood for. … The word itself is disgusting and I will always be deeply sorry to anyone who had to see that and will continue to be sorry for all the dumb vile shit I’ve said in the past.”

He then explained that he had long ago made a “splash page” intended to link to his LiveJournal profile that featured a “VERY graphic photo of me cutting and bleeding.” Within a week, he had “dissolved the URL and tried to erase the horrible images of me self-harming from the internet.”

The YouTuber asked that people stop sharing the image, as seeing it resurface “has been really triggering and hard to process.” He admitted:

“Self mutilation was something I was addicted to as a teenager and has always haunted me. I hope as human beings, anyone can see why seeing these pictures over and over isn’t healthy.”

As for the Confederate flag image, the 34-year-old had this to say:

“I was asked to be in that photo for shock value because I was ‘gay’ and obviously not what the flag represents, I was mocking the flag but now see how ugly and wrong it is to be next to it. Should I have told them no to the photo? Absolutely. But I made the stupid decision to stand there and I’m sorry for my actions.”

He wrapped up the apology by saying:

“I will always agree with canceling the Jeffree from 10-15 years old. That person is long gone. But I’m also extremely proud of owning an inclusive makeup brand where I celebrate all races and genders. I won’t let my past overshadow who I am today and will always use my platform to spread awareness and only show inclusivity. I want to apologize and say sorry again to everyone who I offended with my past actions. I will always be sorry.”

Considering how many apologies he’s given, it does seem like Jeffree actually will always be sorry.

This apology, however, notably ignores the recent accusations from Kameron Lester which claim the makeup star treated the vlogger as the “token Black kid.” If a voice note posted on Here for the Tea 2 is to be believed, Star found the accusations “insane” and “boring.”

Soooooo, maybe not so apologetic on all accounts, after all!
