This is just a heartbreaking story.
We’ve been following the controversial custody battle between Kelly Rutherford and her ex-husband Daniel Giersch — but now, the Gossip Girl alum is revealing shocking new details in Vanity Fair‘s November issue.

The lengthy article takes a look inside Rutherford’s fight to get her children Hermes, 8, and Helena, 6, back on American soil since she first filed for divorce in 2008, when she was three months pregnant with their second child.
The 46-year-old actress shared:

“Daniel was subtly verbally abusive. He was trying to alienate me from everyone in my life├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥my parents, my brother. I didn’t want any money from Daniel. I didn’t want any money from Daniel. I wanted us both to be great parents. I wasn’t asking for full custody … Daniel made me go through a custody evaluation while I was pregnant. He sued me like he’d sued Google. He served me custody papers right up until I went into labor.”

The 41-year-old wealthy German businessman met and married Kelly in 2006 in El Lay. It wasn’t long before things went south:

“Divorce is a total racket ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ let’s call it what it is. Everyone’s making tons of money off of stupid people who don’t settle out of court├óΓé¼┬ª And for somebody like my ex-husband, [who has] unlimited funds, who sued Google, this is just his sort of side fun project.”

Miz Rutherford — who declared bankruptcy in 2013 after paying $1.5 million in lawyer fees — didn’t have that luxury:

“I sold everything ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ every stock, everything I owned. I went through my pension; I was living in my friend’s maid’s room. My family helped me, but they said, ‘You can’t keep this up, Kelly. Nobody’s gonna keep up with it. It’s a money pit.'”

Over the summer, the Melrose Place star was left devastated after confusion over court jurisdiction forced her to put her babies back on a plane to Monaco:

“My children and I have lost years of dailiness. How do you get those years back? There is no way I am not going to fight to get my children back.”

Her GG on-screen stepson Ed Westwick, also spoke to the mag supporting his friend:

“She was amazing and caring to her children. She was how you would want your ideal mother to be. Most of the rest of us were teenagers and she was like our mother.”

We just hope differences can be put aside for the kids’ sake!
