Did NBC Make A Huge Mistake By Bringing On Megyn Kelly For The Today Show??

Bad news bears for NBC.
As you know, the network pulled out the big bucks to reel in Megyn Kelly from Fox News for the 9 a.m. hour of the Today show… and it seems like the three-year, $69 million bet might not be paying off.
According to data from Nielsen reported by the Wall Street Journal, Megyn Kelly Today is only averaging 2.4 million viewers an episode, 18% below what the hour was bringing in last season. What’s more — the past two months have been a downward spiral, dipping to a low of 1.9 million. In the key demo, the show is down 28%.

Woof. Television news analyst and consultant, Andrew Tyndall, said of the ratings drop:

“Andrew Lack made the mistake with Megyn Kelly [from the beginning] with the decision to hire her to an anachronistic celebrity contract in the mistaken belief that star quality could turn into ratings gold.”

It certainly doesn’t help matters that publicists are said to be steering their clients clear of the news pundit’s show ever since she asked Jane Fonda about her plastic surgery live on air. Yikes.
We can imagine the network’s affiliates and employees aren’t too happy about the wasted budget and low ratings.
