Two years ago, Karen Crespo lost all four of her limbs due to a bacterial meningitis infection. Since then, she’s had a harder time overcoming the psychological hurdles more than the physical ones.
Then in February, Karen caught wind of Carrie Hammer‘s revolutionary new runway in which she featured “role models” instead of fashion models. One of Carrie’s most stand-out models was a wheelchair-bound doctor, which completely transformed Karen’s outlook on life!
Karen quickly reached out to Carrie to express her appreciation for the designer’s inspiring message, but Carrie was arguably more inspired by Karen than Karen was by her!
The designer invited Karen to walk in her next show, and even purchased Karen new prosthetic limbs when her $80,000 set was stolen — all so that the 31-year-old could get her mobility back and strut her stuff on the runway!!
