The story of a generation is about to come to an end — and not without a bang, based on the new teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker!

In a sizzle reel first revealed to fans at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California on Saturday, Disney revealed new Episode IX footage teasing scenes from the final chapter of the beloved space saga.

The short clip offers plenty to speculate over. Highlights include a dramatic duel between last Jedi Rey (Daisy Ridley) and big bad Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) which, according to fans, might take place on the ruins of the Death Star; a new shot of Darth Vader’s helmet; a red-eyed, possibly possessed C-3PO; and Finn (John Boyega) in a cockpit with a new character named Jannah (Naomi Ackie).

But one shot really has people talking: a scene showing Rey in a hooded black robe wielding an unfolding, double-sided *red* lightsaber!

Uh oh… is our hero switching to the dark side? Or is gurl just doing some Kylo Ren cos-play? We’ll have to wait to find out!

The clip also shows a look at the late Carrie Fisher as Leia in footage originally shot for The Force AwakensDuring the expo, director J.J. Abrams spoke a bit more about reorganizing Leia’s story in Episode IX after the actress’ sudden death in 2017.

He teased:

“Of course, we can’t talk about the cast without talking about Carrie Fisher. And the character of Leia is really in a way the heart of this story. We could not tell the end of these 9 films without Leia. And we realized that we had footage from episode 7 that we realized we could use in a new way. So Carrie, as Leia, gets to be in the film.”

While there are currently more Star Wars films in the works, Lucasfilm has previously confirmed the Rise of Skywalker will mark the final installment of the nine-film “Skywalker Saga,” which began with 1977’s A New Hope.

In addition to Ridley, Driver, Fisher, and Boyega, the film stars Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o,not to mention, returning OGs Mark Hamill, Lando portrayer Billy Dee Williams, and Ian McDiarmid — who is expected to reprise his role as Emperor Palpatine.

Like we said, it looks like it’s gonna end with a bang! Ch-ch-check out the new teaser (below) and catch The Rise of Skywalker in theaters on December 20, 2019.
