It’s over for the Golden Bachelor and his wife — just three months after their over-the-top television wedding to celebrate marriage, love, and eternity!
On Friday morning, Gerry Turner and his now-estranged wife Theresa Nist went on Good Morning America to reveal to the world that they are getting divorced. Like we said, the duo had only been married for about 90 days after first rising to fame on ABC‘s silver-haired spin-off of The Bachelor. But things just didn’t work out for them!

Revealing the news to correspondent Juju Chang, Turner said:
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.”
When Chang asked for clarification about whether that meant a divorce, Gerry replied:
“Yes.”
Oof. Already??? Theresa added:
“We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched The Golden Bachelor, and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody.”
Well, that’s a nice sentiment. But the hope is kind of out the window since their marriage ended… and so damn quickly, too… Just saying!!
Gerry explained in the GMA chat that both parties had been busy trying to figure out how to live as a married couple while still honoring their family commitments in their home states. That meant infamously living apart for much of the last few months, and only going to visit each other as often as they could:
“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families … So we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to, to live apart.”
Nist added that the pair did look at homes together in South Carolina, and even considered moving Gerry to New Jersey, where she lives, from his home base in Indiana. But it just didn’t work out:
“We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision.”
Sad!
Ultimately, the duo claims that they did not fall out of love even though they are divorcing. Gerry said:
“I still love this person. There’s no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her. I root for her every day.”
And Theresa added:
“Yeah, I still love him.”
They will give each other their rings back, however! Nist joked that it’s “the rule” per the contract, before Turner added this sweet sentiment:
“But you know what? We don’t have to give back the memories.”
True! Not sure how you’d do that, anyways. The couple did have a prenuptial agreement, FYI, so it seems like that’ll make things a little bit easier.
