It must've seemed like a good idea at the time!
We really can't quite believe a company would promote a t-shirt that has such a pro-eating disorder message on it. Surely, they should've known better!
But, well, the Hudson's Bay Co. didn't know better when they put this Christopher Sauvé-designed t-shirt that reads "Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels" over a nutrition label up for sale. You may remember that quote as being attributed to Kate Moss, and in recent years it's been taken up as a sort of mantra for many pro-anorexia or pro-bulimia websites.
Putting it on a t-shirt only fuels those flames. The backlash was swift, however, as people criticized the company on Twitter for selling such an inappropriate item, and the company has since removed it from their site.
They also issued a statement:
“We truly value our relationship with our customers and take their concerns seriously and we recognize that many took offense to the item. In this particular instance, while we respect the designer’s art, due to the overwhelming response and the sensitivity of the matter, we made the decision to promptly remove the T-shirts from our stores and from thebay.com.”
The shirt's designer issued an apology as well, but also explained the satirical nature behind his work. You can read his full statement HERE. He said:
