It’s high time for a #SexStrike in Georgia — and apparently, across the United States!
Alyssa Milano took to Twitter on Saturday morning to call for the Sex Strike, in response the governor of Georgia’s decision to sign into law the controversial “heartbeat” bill in the southern state this week, effectively banning all abortions after six weeks’ pregnancy. Considering women often don’t even know they are pregnant at just six weeks, the bill essentially bans abortion completely — and women aren’t going to stand for that in 2019.

So, Milano — along with thousands of her supporters and other women championing reproductive rights — took to social media to voice displeasure this weekend. One of the ways in which they did so was this aforementioned #SexStrike, as you can see from the actress’ very own social media accounts (below):
Our reproductive rights are being erased.
Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy.
JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back.
I’m calling for a #SexStrike. Pass it on. pic.twitter.com/uOgN4FKwpg

Interesting!
Turnabout is certainly fair play here, and Milano has every right to call for something like this in light of Georgia’s restrictive anti-abortion laws and the increasingly hostile pro-life community’s response to women’s reproductive rights and the availability of safe, healthy options for abortion.

Milano had PLENTY of supporters for this new movement, too, with women all over social media coming forward in solidarity over the idea of a #SexStrike. Here are just a few of her positive responses and praises (below):
There are an awful lot of triggered men on Twitter this morning complaining about women making their own choices about what to do with their bodies.
Which is the entire goddamn point.#SexStrike

Girl power!!
And yet… seen in certain ways, Milano’s sex strike may not be as progressive — or as effective — as one might think. Women across the political spectrum, from conservative anti-abortionists to more progressive mainline feminists pointed out that there were some issues with the sex strike itself, as you can see (below):
Alyssa Milano calls for a “SEX STRIKE”…
LIBERALS hail VICTORY…
COMMON SENSE tells the rest of AMERICA, If LIBERALS stop having sex ABORTION will END…
Alyssa, You have my FULL SUPPORT…
Raise your hand if you also want LIBERALS to stop having sex… ????????♂️

Alyssa Milano continues to be the worst example of clueless regressive white feminism. This Lysistrata Sex Strike bullshit just reinforces the conservative idea that sex is something only men want and pursue and something women give up to please them.

First time I’ve ever seen a pro-choicer advocate for personal responsibility. Kudos! If y’all have a rally LMK I’ll be there

Living under patriarchy has already robbed me of safety, autonomy, opportunities, and trust in our institutions. Now I’m supposed to give up sex, too, and play into the fiction that it’s just a bargaining chip/transaction for women? Love you, but nope.

Please stop feeding the narrative that women are providers and men are consumers of sex. Bribing men for equal rights with access to our bodies is not how feminism works.

Wait this is such a good idea. Don’t want to get pregnant… don’t have sex. It’s almost like it was……. designed that way?

Not having sex to own the very people who want you to stop having sex

Whoa!
Clearly, there’s more than one way to look at this #SexStrike, and both sides of the debate are seeing/hearing what they want to get out of it to reinforce their views… right? Or is there something else going on entirely right here?!
