Cooper also shared Maisani was in the delivery room, gushing to Stephen Colbert:

“He’s my family, and I want him to be Wyatt’s family as well.”

It was revealed this week, the Emmy winner did get to share the first steps towards fatherhood with his beloved mother Gloria Vanderbilt before her death. He revealed on Live With Kelly and Ryan:

“I was able to tell her shortly before she died that I was going to have a baby. I hadn’t actually — Wyatt hadn’t been created at that point. Wyatt wasn’t actually a being at that point. But he was an idea in my head and I was in the process of it. So, she was thrilled.”

Cooper previously expressed the bittersweet feeling of not being able to share this new chapter with his family, writing on Instagram:

“I do wish my mom and dad and my brother, Carter, were alive to meet Wyatt, but I like to believe they can see him. I imagine them all together, arms around each other, smiling and laughing, happy to know that their love is alive in me and in Wyatt, and that our family continues.”

Still, the 52-year-old is definitely enjoying new fatherhood. He described his first week with son Wyatt Morgan Cooper as “astonishing.” He told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest:

“It’s weird. I was trying to think about this last night actually. I keep coming back to the word astonishing. It’s amazing, astonishing. I don’t know. I just stare at him. Hours will go by and I realize I’ve just been sitting there holding him. You know, after a baby’s born, you do this thing skin-to-skin where you hold the baby on your chest. I still do that all the time. There’s nothing better. He’s like a little amphibious creature all curled up with his feet up and he’s like a little tiny frog or something. It’s so cute and I just can’t help but stare at him.”

AWW! So sweet!

Of having a baby during the coronavirus quarantine, Cooper joked:

“It’s way better than Netflix, I will tell you that. Like Leslie Jordan, I’ve watched everything there is on Netflix, so I needed something else. This comes at the perfect time.”

We’re glad to hear Anderson is getting the most out of being a new dad and has the support of his ex partner!
