Human Medication Top ASPCA's Top Ten Toxin's List For Pets

Dropped pills top toxin poisoning pets
Here is some disturbing, but easily PREVENTABLE news.
For the third year in a row, human medications top the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ list of top 10 toxins.
Accidentally ingested human medications have sickened more pets than any other toxin in the United States.
About a quarter of the 168,000 calls received by one ASPCA emergency hotline in Urbana, Illinois in 2010 were about pets who had swallowed human drugs, while another center in Minneapolis, Minnesota estimates that half of the 750,000 calls they have received since 2004 were due to ingestion of human drugs!
Different medications have different affects and it is impossible to track exactly what may happen to the animal in question, but the easiest thing to do is keep pills away from their paws!
Place pills in high places and keep them off of surfaces a pet can easily (or not-so-easily) hop up on.
What else should pet owners be on the lookout for?
Most are aware that chocolate can be deadly for a dogs digestive system, but scientists recently discovered raisins and grapes are toxic to canines as well.
For any cat lovers struggling with hair loss, keep those Rogaine pills under lock and key because they can cause heart failure for felines.
Insecticides, rodenticides, people food, veterinary medications, chocolate, household toxins, plants, herbicides and outdoor toxins (like antifreeze and fertilizers) round out the top 10 list.
Prevention is key here, folks! Look out for your pets when they can’t look out for themselves.
