Dominic West is speaking out about his alleged affair with Lily James!
As Perezcious readers know, the actor sparked MAJOR controversy when he was photographed kissing his The Pursuit of Love co-star in Rome in October 2020. He was also seen getting super cozy with the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again star, such as when they went riding on an electric scooter together. And he wasn’t wearing his wedding ring in the pics! Later, sources claimed he admitted to “having feelings” for the younger woman amid rumored marriage troubles.
But soon after, he and his wife Catherine FitzGerald confirmed they were “very much still together” in a joint statement, and they even posed for kissing pics as a “show of unity.” And now, several years after the height of that memorable scandal, Dominic and Catherine are not only still together but they “joke” about the controversy?!? REALLY??

Speaking to The Sunday Times on Sunday, the actor revealed:
“I hesitate to speak on my wife’s behalf because it was obviously horrible, particularly for her. But we do joke about it sometimes. Because whenever we went out together, the papers would always say we were ‘putting on a show of unity.’”
He continued:
“Even if we’d just been rowing about parking the car or whatever, even if that couldn’t be further from the truth. And so when we go out we do sort of say, ‘Shall we go and have a show of unity up in London?’”
Things were SO messy between the duo and they seemed so close to a divorce! So, it’s wild to think they now laugh about the alleged affair! But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a difficult time! Dominic pointed out:
“It was an absurd situation. It was deeply stressful for my wife and my kids, but there were lighter moments. That was the best that came out of it, really.”
The couple, who has been married since 2010, share kids Dora, 18, Senan, 15, Francis, 14, and Christabel, 8. The Crown star is also dad to Martha, 25, with ex-girlfriend Polly Astor.
While Dominic didn’t directly mention Lily or confirm if the affair accusations were true, he did reveal that the high-profile drama was helpful to him as he tackled the role of King Charles III in the Netflix royal drama. You know, as he got into the mind of His Majesty who infamously had an affair with now-wife Queen Camilla while married to Princess Diana. He dished:
“I’d had a very acute understanding of what it’s like to feel the horror of your name or your photograph coming up in the newspapers. There is that dreadful freezing moment when something is being revealed about you. I think anyone can understand how that feels. But I’d been through it a couple of years previously and it must have informed how I approached it. That gut feeling of horror isn’t something you get inured to.”
LOLz! It’s not a great sign that this made him feel more connected to an admitted adulterer! Just saying! But FWIW, it is impressive that Dominic and Catherine have stayed together amid all this. You don’t see that every day! As for Lily, she declined to elaborate on the headlines in 2021, telling The Guardian:
“Ach, I’m not really willing to talk about that. There is a lot to say, but not now, I’m afraid.”
