Jackie Chan raises $3.3 million for charity

Jackie Chan is probably the nicest action star ever.

The actor raised $3.3 million for Japan relief efforts this past Friday during his fund-raising concert, Artiste 311 Love Beyond Borders, in Hong Kong.

He put in calls across the Asian entertainment industry to wrangle in other charitable musicians and actors to host the show.

Even his good friend Lionel Richie appeared via a satellite feed in Australia to sing a rendition of his Say You, Say Me.

Jackie put together the show in just 11 days and says the most difficult part wasn’t getting people to come, but having too many performers show up! He explained in a recent interview:

“The production team consists of fewer than 40 people, but 300 performers showed up. Almost everyone from Japan that we asked agreed to come over. But then we had to ask ourselves, what role could they play? What should they perform? Because, you know, every guest means a plane ticket, a hotel room, each for the guest and their assistants.”

The actor wasn’t afraid to dig into his own pocket for the event and paid $643,000 to fly in and house all of the performers. “The worst thing would be to ask others to give but not give yourself,├óΓé¼┬¥ he said.

The 56-year-old international star is completely aware of how much money he makes and because of that, he’s not worried about giving so much of it out, explaining:

“My goal is to have a $0 in my bank account the day I die. I get very happy when I think about that, no more worries. I buy the things I like, I give money to charity, and then I try to make more money. I’ll be frank with you: It’s not difficult for me to make money. If it’s easy, why shouldn’t I give it away?”

Right on, Jackie! You’re an inspiration and we wish there were more celebrities out there with your kind heart!
