Melissa McCarthy is sticking up for her embattled pal Meghan Markle!
The Bridesmaids alum was in New York City on Thursday for the opening night of the new Broadway musical Suffs (about the American women’s suffrage movement) when she defended the Duchess of Sussex from an ongoing barrage of haters.
As Perezcious readers know, ever since the Archetypes host linked up with Prince Harry, she just can’t do anything right in the eyes of many anglophiles. Fans are seemingly even using the soft launch of her new strawberry jam as a way to hit back at her. No matter what Meghan does, she’s always faced with TONS of trolls. And now, Melissa is sick of it!

Speaking to Page Six at the musical, the comedian bluntly called out her friend’s harsh critics, saying:
“It bums me out for every woman and every person, that for no reason that people just like to attack. And a smart, interesting woman that has her own life, for some reason, is incredibly threatening to some people. And I always think, how inspiring! I’ve never once been threatened by someone who is amazing. I just think how inspiring. It’s really on the people throwing the hate. Meghan’s wonderful. Strong women are awesome.”
If you didn’t know, the Suits alum and Gilmore Girls star have been friends since at least 2021 when Melissa joined the mother of two in a video for her 40th birthday, which also launched her 40×40 mentorship program. The hilarious video spoofed Meg’s royal role — which haters later slammed for being shady! But Melissa never backed down from showing her support for the couple. After the viral video was released, she told Access Hollywood:
“They were so sweet and funny. I just found them very inspiring. They’re carving out their own lives. They’re carving out their lives for their kids.”
She’s a fan!
And the Spy lead clearly hasn’t changed her tune in the last few years. Must be nice for the Sussexes to have that undying support from their Cali friends — ’cause they certainly aren’t getting it from the royal family! Thoughts?! Sound OFF (below)!
